Our History
In the early 1960’s three rural water districts were formed with the assistance of the Farmers Home Administration to provide a viable water source for residents in the area. These water districts served residents in the cities of Basehor and Lansing as well as unincorporated areas of Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties. In the 1980’s these three rural water districts consolidated to form the water district it is today.
Governing Board
The Board of Directors, which oversees the operation of the water district, is comprised of nine elected members. Board of Directors serve three year terms and each year three Board of Directors are elected to the Board. Boards of Directors are elected by the Benefit Unit Holders (our customers) at the annual meeting held every year in February. The Board of Directors themselves elects the various officers (Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer) for that year. The board employs a management staff to manage the daily operations of the water district. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday of each month at the district office at 7:00 P.M. The meeting is open to the public. If you would like to address the Board of Directors, they ask that you please contact the office prior to the meeting. ]
